What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is the art combined with the science
of using essential oils to maintain or increase health and beauty.
Many ancient civilizations (Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Chinese and
Indian) have used aromatherapy for their physical and mental well
being. The word "Aromatherapy" was invented in 1928 by
the French chemist Rene Maurice Gattefosse. He accidentally discovered
the healing properties of lavender when he burnt his hands during
an experiment. He dunked his hands in a keg filled with pure lavender
essential oil as it was what was most refreshing within reach. Mr.
Gattefosse discovered that his hands healed very rapidly and did
so without leaving any scars. This simple accident awarded the French
chemist the title of founding father of aromatherapy. Today, aromatherapy
is used in both preventative and healing holistic natural medicine.
What are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are plant extracts, usually obtained
by distillation. Large amounts of plant matter are required to produce
minute amounts of oil and this accounts for their considerable price.
Essential oils are considered to be vegetable hormones containing
the 'life force' of the plant and are extracted from various parts
of the plant: leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds, grass, roots, wood,
bark, gum and blossoms.
Why use Handmade Soaps?
All of the soaps made by Me First are vegetarian,
using natural vegetable oils and butters. Unlike the commercial
method of making soap, all of Me First Soaps are made through the
cold process method. With the cold process method, soap retains
the natural glycerin created during the saponification process.
Handmade soaps are gentle and moisturizing and are even suitable
for sensitive skin. The exfoliating agents used in Me First soaps
are also natural and vary from ground almonds, wheat germ, poppy
seeds as well as other herbs and spices.
